Community Resources

Here are some great resources to help parents in the Halton-Hamilton region. If you’d like to contribute others, please contact us and we will add them to this page.

Help at Home
City of Hamilton residents, check out the “Good Beginnings” program, hosted by VON (Victorian Order of Nurses). This volunteer-based program is open to families of multiples, up until the babies reach 6 months of age. Some circumstances may permit a volunteer for a longer duration. A member of the VON will visit your home to interview you and assess your needs. All volunteers are screened and interviewed (including police and reference checks) by a qualified VON coordinator, and receive three hours of training on the care of newborns. The VON coordinator follows up on the match. This Hamilton-based program is funded by the United Way and the Public Health department and has operated for over 5 years. They will match you up with a volunteer that will come to your home once a week for 2-3 hours to assist you with your multiples and/or any other siblings. The volunteer is not a babysitter so you may not leave the home; they are there to provide some assistance to you. For more information and to set up an appointment, please contact Donna Roadhouse at 905-522-0053 ext 2224.
